Principal, school chief searches on in Hadley
HADLEY – The search is on for a new principal at Hopkins Academy and a new superintendent for the district.
Interim Superintendent Donna Moyer said that the student, staff and parent principal screening committees have narrowed the candidates down to five semi-finalists, from 52 applicants. Moyer will select finalists to bring to the School Committee, which will hold public interviews March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hopkins Academy Music Room.
Hopkins Academy is currently led by Interim Principal Michael Rooney.
The school committee is also in the midst of a search for a permanent superintendent to replace Moyer, who will continue with the district through the 2013-2014 school year. The School Committee will hold two public forums for parents, students and faculty to discuss what characteristics they value in a superintendent. Those meetings will be held Monday 7 p.m. in the Hopkins Academy cafeteria and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the staff room at Hadley Elementary School. Childcare will be provided.
The School Committee hopes to hire a new superintendent by the end of November.
Superintendent Nicholas Young left the district to head the South Hadley schools in June after 11 years in Hadley. He was followed by Hopkins Principal Diana Bonneville, who left in December to become principal of South Hadley High School.
