Agreement keeps WWLP on Charter Communications in Hadley

HADLEY — An agreement was reached Thursday keeping WWLP-22News in Springfield on Charter Communications, which provides cable television service in Hadley.

The Springfield television station earlier had warned Hadley viewers that it might be dropped by Charter when its old contract expired at 5 p.m. Thursday.

But Thursday evening WWLP reported the agreement on its website at www.wwlp.com: “This fair resolution ensures that we can continue to provide top quality news, sports, entertainment and other local programming that is most important to you.”

Details of the agreement were not immediately available.

The threatened loss of the NBC affiliate in Hadley resulted from a dispute between its parent company, LIN TV Corp., and Charter. LIN had sought a 150 percent increase in fees.

Town Administrator David Nixon said he received several complaints from residents about the possible elimination of WWLP from Hadley’s cable package. While the town has no control over programming, he pointed out that Charter’s contract with Hadley expires next October.

The town’s website at www.hadleyma.org has a survey asking for community reaction to Charter’s service, and the deadline for comments is Monday.
