Basic rights workshop aims to introduce parents to intricacies of special ed laws
Special ed rights
Families of children with developmental disabilities are invited to a free workshop focusing on basic rights in special education, set for Oct. 18 at the Inclusive Community Center, 41 Russell St., Hadley from 4:15-6:15 p.m.
The workshop aims to provide families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Massachusetts Special Education Law, and No Child Left Behind.
The goal of the session is to help parents learn to be effective partners with their child’s school to decide their child’s eligibility for special education, and to plan, make decisions and monitor their child’s progress in school. The workshop is presented by the Federation for Children with Special Needs. It is free and open to everyone.
