Greenfield man arrested on heroin charge when vehicle stopped in Northampton
NORTHAMPTON — A Greenfield man who police said carried 29 bundles of heroin in his pocket was arrested Friday afternoon after police stopped the vehicle he was riding in for not carrying an inspection sticker.
Nicholas Robert Wonsey, 28, faces a charge of possession with the intent to distribute a class A drug.
Driver made statement
Police stopped the car at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Service Center Road shortly after 4 p.m.
The female driver told officers that she took Wonsey to Holyoke, where he bought the heroin, police said.
She said it was still in his possession, which prompted officers to search Wonsey.
Detective Timothy Satkowski said police found 291 bags of heroin in the 29 bundles.
That amount of heroin could carry a resale value of about $1,500, depending on where it is sold, Northampton police said.
