Thursday’s high schools: Gateway tips Hopkins to remain unbeaten in girls soccer
Senior Montgomery Moses scored her first two career varsity goals to lift the unbeaten Gateway Regional girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Hopkins Academy.
Moses, playing her first season on the varsity squad, was assisted on the first goal by Alyssa Moreau. With the game tied and 15 minutes left, Sarah Stec set up the game winner for the Gators (5-0-2, 1-0-1 Pioneer South).
Jai Ruiz scored from Ally Huntoon for the Golden Hawks (4-5-1, 0-2-1), who received eight saves from Kate Sullivan.
Sarah Otterbeck stopped two shots for Gateway.
Granby 4, Smith Academy 0 — Erin Mikalchus scored two first-half goals, and Kiley Baran (assist) put the game away with a tally two minutes into the second half as the Rams (7-0) won in Hatfield.
Kate Desormier also scored, while Meghan Sullivan had one assist and Brittany Hauschild six saves in the shutout.
Brooke Pashek mad eight saves, while McKenzie Wilson played well at center back for the Falcons (6-2).
Easthampton 1, South Hadley 0 — Willow Ross scored the lone goal for Easthampton (6-0-2, 3-0 Pioneer North) and the Eagles held on for the win over the Tigers (3-3-1, 0-2).
Alyssa Fugiel had six saves for Easthampton.
Sophie Gatzounas had seven saves for South Hadley.
Hampshire 4, Holyoke 1 — The Raiders (6-1-1) got tallies from Chelsea Moussette, Vicci Rizos, Vanessa Groeber and Michelle Labrie in the home win.
Anna Dziok and Shelly Nardi had assists for Hampshire.
Kayla LaBrecque (five saves) and Madison Boucher (three) split time in goal for the Raiders.
Amherst 1, Sabis 1 e_SEmDSage DeChiara scored for the Hurricanes (2-3-2), who battled to a draw in Springfield.
Taylor Bartmon picked up an assist for Amherst, while Becca Carkhuff made five saves.
Holyoke Catholic 3, Ware 0 — Alliana Hasiuk, Liz Cavanaugh and Taylor LeClair each scored a goal for the Gaels (4-1-3, 1-0-2 Pioneer South) in the home win.
Danielle Easton picked up an assist for Catholic, while Katie Klejna made eight saves.
Frontier Regional 2, Athol 0 — Camilla Baronas posted an 18-save shutout for the Red Hawks (4-3-1, 1-2 Pioneer North) in the home victory.
Olivia Denkiewicz and Meghan Slocombe scored once each, while Casey Michalowski earned an assist.
Northampton 0. Frontier Regional 0 — Dana Dufour made three saves for the Blue Devils (7-0-2), and Gwen Thayer stopped one for the Red Hawks (6-1-1) in the draw in South Deerfield.
In a game played mostly in the midfield, Frontier took four corners and Northampton had two.
Belchertown 3, Pioneer Regional 0 — The Orioles (4-5) swept the home match, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.
Tatyana Ryan led Belchertown with six aces and four assists. Alexis Ryan had two kills and Jenn Ollari-Barry added a pair of blocks.
Sabis 3, South Hadley 1 — The Tigers (4-5, 1-2 Southern) won a marathon game to open the match, but lost the next three in the 33-35, 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 loss.
Maddi Kelliher had six kills and eight digs for South Hadley, Sarah LaRochelle chipped in with three kills and six digs, while Courtney Marcil added 10 assists.
