Meghan Sullivan scored a season-high 16 points and the Granby girls basketball team clinched a Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament berth in a 41-28 win at Ware Tuesday.

Rebecca Sapoukey added seven points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for Granby (10-0, 2-0 Bi-County Central).

Belchertown 54, Palmer 40 — Téa Spellacy scored 23 points and Jillian Cavanaugh added 11 points and 20 rebounds as the Orioles (7-2, 2-0 Bi-County East) won on the road.

Sarah Woodcock added four points and seven assists in the win for Belchertown, which has won four straight.

The Orioles play at Hampshire Regional (8-2, 3-0) for first place Thursday at 7 p.m.

Minnechaug 39, Amherst Regional 36 — The Hurricanes (0-7) allowed a 12-point lead after one quarter to slip away in the independent road loss.

Xin Xin Tarren led Amherst with 11 points, while Sarah Mangels scored 10 and Jamie Staples added nine.

Monson 66, South Hadley 49 — Meg Lynes scored 14 points as the Tigers (7-3, 1-2 Bi-County Central) dropped a road matchup with Monson.

Kelly Pouliot (12 points) and Meg Ginley (11 points) also scored in double-digits for South Hadley in the loss.

Boys basketball

Smith Academy 67, Frontier Regional 54 — The Falcons (9-1, 8-1 Hampshire West) outscored the Red Hawks (5-5, 5-4) 19-9 in the fourth quarter to pull within a win of qualifying for the postseason.

Mat Sulda and Keith Natale (10 rebounds) each had 19 points, while Derek McMahon added 18 for Smith.

Paul Decker had 27 points with five 3-pointers and Ryan Hoar added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Frontier.

Mahar Regional 59, Easthampton 40 — The Eagles (5-6, 3-6 Hampshire League) fell behind 32-20 at halftime and couldn’t come back on the road.

Before the game, Easthampton senior center Chris Starcun pledged to dedicate his performance to junior varsity coach Joe Dushane, whose son J.J. died in a car accident five years ago Tuesday. Starcun led the Eagles with 25 points and 17 rebounds.

Athol 64, Hopkins Academy 37 — Spencer Butterfield put in a team-high 11 points for the Golden Hawks (1-8, 0-8 Hampshire West) in the home loss.

Zach Kelley added 10 points for Hopkins.

Dean Tech 62, Smith Vocational 56 — Jordan Castillo had 23 points but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings (1-6, 1-2 Tri-County) fell at home.

Hockey

South Hadley 7, Chicopee Comp 2 — Evan Sullivan registered five points as the Tigers (7-2, 5-0 Wright) won their fifth straight game.

The freshman forward scored twice with three assists in the victory. Tom Crotty had a goal and two assists, while Tim Sweeney (assist), Tom Dowd, Brian Bak and Jeff Beauregard added a goal apiece.

Ben Kravetz picked up a pair of assists for South Hadley. Beau Cass, Jake Knowles and Joe Whalen added an assist each.

Devin Hoagland made 24 saves for the win in goal.

Greenfield 3, Turners Falls 1 — Cody Booska scored the lone goal for the Indians (5-5-1) in the loss at Collins-Moylan Rink in Greenfield.

Ryan Lenois and Cullen Wozniak picked up assists on the tally for Turners, while Will Miller stopped 29 shots in goal.
