Monday’s girls soccer: Northampton opens season with shutout of Longmeadow
The Northampton girls soccer team sat idle during the first week of the high school season, but the delayed start was worth the wait Monday afternoon.
Lily Glading-Dilorenzo scored from Lauren McGrath three minutes into the second half as the Blue Devils defeated Longmeadow 1-0 at home in their season opener.
Rose Katz-Berger made 12 saves in the shutout for Hamp (1-0, 1-0 Kurty-Fielding).
Amherst Regional 2, Chicopee 2 — Freshman Sage DeChiara scored twice in her varsity debut and Becca Carkhuff withstood a furious late assault as the Hurricanes earned a point in their opener at home.
Hattie Wilder assisted on the first goal.
Carkhuff made 12 saves in the win and earned high praise from her coach.
Carkhuff “was outstanding,” coach C.J. Holt said. “She kept us in the game under heavy pressure, especially in the final 15 minutes.”
Easthampton 9, Greenfield 0 — Nine different players scored as the Eagles (1-0-2) rolled on the road.
Gabby Downer, Karina Volpe, Tierney George and Jen Szafir each had a goal and one assist.
Willow Ross, Maddi Grabowski, Brenna Mottor, Maggie Douglass and Sydney Slattery each had one goal, while Anne Ryan and Sydney Robinson had one assist apiece.
Alyssa Fugiel made one save in the shutout.
Smith Academy 3, Hopkins Academy 0 — McKenzie Wilson had a goal and an assist for the Falcons (2-1, 1-0 Pioneer South) in the home shutout.
Cassidy Snyder scored once and Mia Ellis assisted once for Smith, while Brooke Pashek made eight saves in goal.
Kate Sullivan stopped 11 shots for the Golden Hawks (1-2, 0-1).
Monson 4, Hampshire Regional 3 — The Raiders (1-1-1, 0-1 Grieve) rallied with two goals in the final 10 minutes but fell just short on the road.
Sienna Caron, Vissi Rizos and Vanessa Groeber each scored a goal for Hampshire. Anna Dziok, Shelly Nardi and Lauren Aldrich picked up an assist apiece.
Madison Boucher (six saves) and Kayla Labrecque (three) each played a half in net.
Gateway Regional 0, Holyoke Catholic 0 — Katie Klejna stopped 14 shots for the Gaels (0-1-2, 0-0-1 Pioneer South) and Sarah Otterbeck made two saves for the Gators (0-0-2, 0-0-1) in the scoreless draw in Chicopee.
South Hadley 1, Mahar 1 — Reilly Jodoin scored an unassisted goal for the Tigers (1-0-1) in the draw in Orange.
Abby Lukasik made six saves for South Hadley.
