Wednesday’s high school results: Frontier’s Krystel Enko hurls first career no-hitter
After striking out 23 Taconic batters Friday, Frontier Regional pitcher Krystel Enko fired a six-inning no-hitter against Mahar Regional, as the Red Hawks cruised to a 5-0 win Wednesday in South Deerfield.
The game was stopped by weather concerns.
Enko struck out 10 and came within a third-inning walk of a perfect game, but still finished with her first career no-hitter.
Ally Hamelin got things started offensively with a two-run double in the first inning for Frontier (14-5, 14-4 Franklin) as part of her two-hit day.
Sarah Toomey added a two-out, two-run single in the third, while Cassidy Stankowski added two hits and scored a run.
Belchertown 3, Palmer 1 — Samantha Manitsas outdueled Nicole Handzel in a contest between two strong WMass Division 2 tournament teams in palmer.
Both pitchers allowed only three hits in the game.
Manitsas had six strikeouts for the Orioles (16-4), while Handzel struck out five for the Panthers (17-3).
Hannah Flink, Erinne Dull and Emily Silva had one hit each in the win.
Hampshire Regional 10, Hopkins Academy 0 — Sophomore Sara Abel threw a one-hit shutout as the Raiders (16-1, 15-1 Franklin) clinched the league title with the win in Hadley.
Savannah Waters singled, doubled and scored two runs for Hampshire.
Anna Dziok, Bri Weltlich and Chelsea Moussette all scored two runs in the win.
Allie Butterfield had the lone hit for the Golden Hawks (5-12).
Granby 9, Central 5 — The Rams (13-5, 6-4 Bi-County) scored six times in the bottom of the third inning to pull away at home.
Tessa Cote survived some rare wildness to earn the win. She allowed just two hits, but walked 11 while striking out seven.
Kate Sullivan had two hits and scored twice for Granby, while Brooke Labrie had a single and two RBIs.
Amherst Regional 5, Holyoke 1 — The Hurricanes scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to give them some breathing room in their win at home.
Mathena Morrissey allowed two hits, a walk and a run while striking out three in five innings to earn the win for Amherst (5-14).
Sarah Grace Spurgin had three hits and scored twice, while Cassie Long (two RBIs) and Justine Bohl each added two hits.
Amherst Regional 16, West Springfield 2 — Three seniors notched at least four points for the Hurricanes (11-7, 5-6 Valley Wheel) in the blowout win on senior night.
Isaac Bass led the Amherst attack with three goals and two assists. Kieran Presley had three goals and an assist, while Nick Johnson had a tally and three assists. Fellow seniors Kevin Tran (two goals), Drew Kosloski (goal, assist) and Luke Allen (goal) also enjoyed strong showings.
Melvin Espinoza-Rosa (assist) and Donovan Riley scored two goals each, while Alex LaRaja added a tally.
Senior Will Barstow made one save in just under one half in goal. John Noonan stopped two in relief, while senior Janko Tomasic played net in the fourth quarter without a save.
Longmeadow 12, South Hadley 11 (OT) — The Tigers led 10-6 going into the fourth quarter, but fell in overtime.
Keegan Dudek scored 45 seconds into the extra frame for the Lancers.
Evan Marcus led South Had-ley (14-4, 8-3 Valley Wheel) with three goals and three assists. Tom Dowd scored three goals. Tom Crotty and Sam Duda (one assist) each had two goals.
T.J. Fitzell added two assists in front of Jack Lesiure, who made nine saves.
Northampton 15, Taconic 0 — Will Lombardi scored six goals as the Blue Devils (9-9) kept their tourney hopes alive with a win at home.
Cody Malone scored four goals and two assists, while Ben Davis scored two goals.
Nicholas Pellegrino was also a contributing factor with two assists.
Hamp needs to beat rival Amherst Friday at 7 p.m. to earn a tournament spot.
Amherst Regional 16, Cathedral 6 — The Hurricanes’ four seniors combined for nine goals at home on senior night.
Leah Goldman (two assists) scored three goals, while Eliza Fishman, Sarah Mangels and Addie Gamliel had two apiece for Amherst (4-14).
Taylor Bartmon (three goals) and Meghan Sharick (two goals, assist) each registered three points in the win. Clover Ulrich and Gracie Frank added a goal each.
Katie Dunn made 12 saves in goal.
South Hadley 15, East Longmeadow 10 — Kelly Pouliot notched eight points (two goals, six assists) as the Tigers (11-7, 6-6 Valley Wheel) closed out their regular season with a win on senior night.
Seniors Brooke Marion (three goals, assist) and Maddie Brandts (goal, assist) both had multiple points.
Meghan Ginley (two assists) and Olivia Slysz each scored three times, while Claudia Menard added two and Gabrielle Schwalm one.
Deanna Conti picked up an assist in front of goalie Beth Hennessey, who made six saves.
