Three outs from elimination in the Little League District 2 Tournament, the Northampton Junior All-Stars came through with two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 12-11 win over Agawam at St. John Field in Agawam.

Chris Darragh’s fourth hit of the game brought in Ben Gordon Sniffen with the game-winning run. John Carey also had four hits.

Northampton (3-1) overcame an early 4-0 deficit to take a 9-4 lead after five. It then rallied in the eighth and ninth after Agawam scored a run in the top half.

RJ Safron earned the win with two innings of relief. Safron, Ethan Salem and Kieran Thurston combined for 10 strikeouts.

Agawam (2-1) would have won the double elimination tournament with a win. Instead, the teams will play the deciding contest Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Northampton’s Arcanum Field.

American Legion

Northampton King & Cushman 5, West Springfield 2 — Joe Warner allowed just four hits and struck out 11 in a complete-game victory for Post 28 (5-8) at home.

Kevin Banas singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in another for Northampton, which won its fourth straight. Tim Horton (two runs) and Joe Afflitto each added an RBI single.

Amherst 4, East Springfield 2 — Jamie Carey went the distance, giving up no earned runs with five strikeouts for Post 148 (4-7) in the home win.

Carey added an RBI hit and scored a run. Brendan Ziomek had a two-run single, Brett Morrison a triple and a run, and Alex Snyder-Fair a double, two walks and a run.

Greenfield 6, South Hadley Pettengill Insurance 4 — Adam Pilachowski had a hit and two RBIs, but Post 260 (4-6) fell on the road.

Ryan Klesczynski (RBI), Joe Ciolek and Scott Bicknell added a hit apiece for South Hadley.

Ben Ruddock struck out six in 51/3 innings for Post 81 (8-2).

Mickey Mantle

South Hadley 3, Holyoke 1 — Ryan Mooney struck out 10 and allowed one run on four hits to earn the win for South Hadley despite quiet bats.

South Hadley (9-4) had four hits, but Ethan Flemming’s was a two-rbi single, scoring Nehemiah Wilson and David Pratt in the second inning. Thomas Shea added a run in the fifth, knocking in Wilson with a single of his own.

Little League (9/10)

Belchertown 10, Gateway 0 (4) — Gina Camerota struck out all nine hitters she faced and had two hits with two RBIs as Belchertown (3-1) won the District 2 tournament game on the road.

Ryan Zawistowski reached base four times with a pair of hits, scored three runs and knocked in another. Tyler Laramee and Michael Gilbert added a hit and two RBIs apiece.

Zakary Christian had the lone hit for Gateway (0-4).

Westfield American 13, Easthampton 12 — After allowing 12 runs over the fourth and fifth innings, a six-run comeback fell short for Easthampton (1-3).

Nick Jolicoeur (two doubles, run), Tommy Vaillancourt (double, run) and Justin Colpack (double) each drove in three runs in the loss.

Leadoff hitter Will Robbins went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Longmeadow 19, Southampton 1 (4) — Southampton was knocked out of contention as Longmeadow pitchers combined for a one-hitter.

Southampton (0-4) scored in the second as Kyle Doinne walked and advanced on Gary Herman’s single. Edward Przbyla came in to pinch run and stole second, allowing Doinne to take home on the throw.

Tri-County League

Easthampton Savings Bank 13, Ash-Dee 3 (5) — Ryan Smith enjoyed a 3 for 3 night with a walk, two runs and an RBI as ESB (7-5-1) earned a mercy-shortened home victory.

Brandon Kubic had two hits and two runs for Easthampton.

Billy O’Neil pitched 21/3 innings of hitless relief and fanned three to pick up the win.

Teddy Bear Pools 8, Longmeadow 2 — Brad Bean tripled in two runs and stole a base as Teddy Bear (7-6) earned a win at Frontier Regional.

Kyle Platner picked up a pair of hits, while Tom Malooly doubled with a steal and Andrew Sadowski added an RBI.

Metro softball

Easthampton 4, Southwick 1 — The Cavanaugh sisters led the Eliminators (9-0) to victory as Summer struck out five for the win and Savannah had two hits to power the offense.

Summer Cavanaugh allowed no runs on four hits in 4 innings and Caelin Mottor pitched 3 innings of relief, allowing one hit and an unearned run.
