Danielle Duseau scored the game-winning goal to lift the Smith Academy field hockey team past rival Frontier Regional 2-1 in the first round of the Columbus Day Classic on Saturday at Smith College.

The Falcons then settled for being runner-up in the event with a 4-0 loss to Division 1 powerhouse Longmeadow on Sunday.

Olivia Cavanaugh also scored for Smith (8-5-1), while Kelly Ryan had an assist.

Lauren Bradford made three saves Saturday and 16 Sunday.

Frontier beat Northampton 3-1 in Sunday’s consolation game.

Brenna Sicard scored twice for the Red Hawks (10-3-1), while McKayla Poissant added one goal. Taryn Marquis assisted on all three scores.

Poissant also scored in Saturday’s loss off an assist by Hannah Woodring.

Gwen Thayer made 13 saves Saturday and seven Sunday.

Northampton (9-3-2) fell to Longmeadow 2-0 in the first round Saturday.

Reilly Griffin scored the goal for the Blue Devils (9-4-2) Sunday.

Dana Dufour had 17 saves Saturday and three Sunday.

Tantasqua 2, Amherst Regional 0 — Nadia Squitero made 14 saves for the Hurricanes (2-9) in the loss Saturday on the road.

Boys Soccer

Hopkins Academy 3, Smith Academy 0 — Evan Delaney (assist), Tyler Szymkowicz and Paul Delamy each scored once as the Golden Hawks (13-1-1) downed their rival Falcons (7-3-3) on Saturday in Hadley.

Brennan Mitrolka and Zach Anderson were each credited with an assist, while Ben Pitta made three saves for the shutout.

Belchertown 3, Palmer 0 — Alex DeSantis scored first and Nick Drost added two insurance goals for the Orioles (12-2) at home Saturday.

James Izatt, Jack Stinson and Cam Messier were each credited with an assist. Lewis Berger made four saves for the shutout.

Girls Soccer

Belchertown 8, Granby 0 — Breanne Moreau netted a hat trick as the Orioles (12-0-1) beat the Rams at home Saturday.

Kayla Henry added two goals and two assists. Brittany Moreau added one goal and two assists.

Téa Spellacy and Bryanna Veroneau (assist) also scored once, while Aliana Swift and Jackie Soucia had an assist each.

Sarah LaClair and Ashley Cavanaugh combined for three saves in the shutout.

Brittany Hauschild made 10 saves for Granby (10-1-1).

Prep Schools
Football

Cheshire 39, Williston 33 — Ladell Robinson threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another 166 yards and two scores, but the Wildcats (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season Saturday in Cheshire, Conn.

Evan Cavanaugh of Northampton had two sacks, recovered a fumble and blocked an extra point.

Loomis Chaffee 44, Deerfield Academy 7 — Kieran Presley, an Amherst Regional graduate, had 120 yards rushing and scored a touchdown in home win Saturday.

Girls Soccer

Westminster 1, Williston 0 — Olivia Berk-Krauss made 15 saves for the Wildcats (3-4-1) in Saturday’s loss on the road.

Field Hockey

Westminter 2, Williston 1 — Maddy Jerolman scored the lone goal for the Wildcats at home Saturday.

Morgan Fisher made 10 saves in the loss.

Girls Volleyball

Wilbraham & Monson 3, Williston 1 — Mackenzie Zehring had three digs as the Wildcats (1-5) lost on the road Saturday 23-25, 25-10, 25-22, 25-13.

Shaina D’Souza added four aces, two kills and two digs in the loss.

Boys Cross Country

Avon Old Farms 21, Williston 36 — Christian Knapp (third, 17:34) and Nick Patterson (fourth, 18:01) each finished in the top five for the Wildcats in their loss at home Saturday.

Girls Cross Country

Williston 26, Miss Porter’s 31 — Julie Lord (second, 20:54), Rachel Rockwell (fourth, 21:10) and Emily Yeager (fifth, 21:11) each finished in the top five as the Wildcats (6-0) remained undefeated with a win at home Saturday.
