Williston football ends season with 35-29 win over St. Thomas More

The Williston football team finished its season Saturday with a 35-29 victory over St. Thomas More in Connecticut.

Lineman Alex Massengill of Amherst helped pave the way for an offense that gained 290 yards rushing on 52 carries.

Frankie Zumbo rushed for 109 yards, while Nick Garafano had 77 and Ledell Robinson 71.

John Woodside of Amherst recovered a fumble, while Zach Pyser of Easthampton was 2-for-2 on extra points and finished the season with one miss.

Girls soccer

Williston 5, Northfield Mount Hermon 1 — South Hadley native Grace Simpson had a hat trick for the Wilcats (7-5-1) Saturday. Gia Parker of Amherst and Maddie Hatch also scored.

Boys soccer

Williston 2, Northfield 1 — Griffin Foley and Pierre Deliso scored in Williston’s win over Northfield Saturday.

Field hockey

Williston 2, Northfield 1 (OT) — Catie Laraway scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the Wildcats (9-5) Saturday at home.

Nell Heidinger of Westhampton scored for Williston.

Taylor Senecal of South Hadley played well, while Morgan Fisher stopped five shots for the Wildcats.

Girls volleyball

Williston 3, Miss Porter’s School 1 — The Wildcats finished their season with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15 victory Saturday at home.

Maggie Dewey had five kills, seven assists and a block in the win.

Boys cross country

Williston finished fifth out of 13 teams at the NEPSTA Division 2 Championships Saturday in Hebron

Andy Pierce placed eighth in 17 minutes, 57 seconds to pace the Wildcats.

Corey Palumbo (14th, 18:12) and Evan Jacobson (22nd, 18:22) were the other top finishers for Williston.

Girls cross country

Williston placed 10th out of 14 teams at the NEPSTA Division 2 Championships Saturday in Hebron

Devon Greenwood of Easthampton was seventh overall in 21:45 for the Wildcats. Hannah Lewis was 27th (23:24).
