Tuesday’s high school softball: Easthampton holds off Southwick

Caelin Mottor earned her eighth and final strikeout with the tying run on third in the top of the seventh inning as the Easthampton softball team held off Southwick 4-3 at home Tuesday.

Rachel Connell was 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Eagles (11-4), while Kelly Avard was 2-for-3 with a two-run single to highlight the team’s three-run first inning.

Mottor limited the Rams (11-5) to seven hits and one walk.

Amherst 7, West Springfield 3 — The Hurricanes scored three times in the fourth inning to get some breathing room en route to a win on the road.

Sarah Grace-Spurgin had a double and two singles, drove in two runs and scored twice for Amherst (3-12, 2-4 Valley League). Jazzy Moonstone, Cassie Long and Haley Parker each added two hits for the Hurricanes. Ally Faulstick struck out five while giving up six hits and five walks to earn the win.

Palmer 1, Granby 0 — Panthers ace Nicole Handzel struck out 13, walked one and hit one batter en route to a no-hitter against the Rams (10-5) in Granby.

Handzel induced five grounders, and three infield popups. She had seven called third strikes.

Tessa Cote struck out two, walked none and scattered five hits in the tough-luck loss.

Holyoke Catholic 5, Sabis 1 — Megan Logan struck out nine and allowed just two hits and no walks to shut down the Bulldogs at Holyoke Community College.

She helped herself with two hits, while Julie Carroll also had two. Lindsey Robins added a single and two RBIs.

Renaissance 9, Smith Vocational 1 — Alice Kubacki broke up Stephanie Godding’s no-hitter and shutout with an RBI single in the top of the seventh at Marshall Roy Field in Springfield.

Kubacki drove in Pricilla Sepulveda (walk) in the loss.

Maddie Spencer-Orrell struck out 11 and walked six for the Vikings (6-8, 6-7 Tri-County).

Godding had 14 strikeouts for the Phoenix (9-6, 8-3).

Greenfield 8, South Hadley 6 — Abby Lukasik, Vic Mielnikowski, Merry Kocot and Anna Robinson had two hits each, but the Tigers (3-12) lost at home.

Robinson and Lukasik each had a triple and an RBI, while Mielnikowski also drove in a run.

Tess Gauthier struck out four and walked four in the loss.
