Tuesday’s high schools: Easthampton blanks Gateway 1-0 in girls soccer

Claire Douglass converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute and the Easthampton girls soccer team finished off a home shutout of Gateway Regional with a 1-0 win Tuesday afternoon.

Easthampton (6-2-1, 3-1-1 Pioneer) was awarded the PK when Alli Dabek put a through ball to Sydney Robinson, whose shot went off the arm of a defender in the box.

Alyssa Fugiel came up big with nine saves for the win, while Gateway (7-3, 4-2) keepers Brooke Fairman and Sarah Otterbeck combined for six stops.

Belchertown 4, West Springfield 1 — The Orioles (9-0-2) received a pair of goals from Natalie Caney as they remained unbeaten with the road victory.

Jackie Soucia had a goal and an assist for Belchertown, which secured a postseason bid with its win Saturday over Wahconah.

Abbey Norden added a tally, while Christina Delude and Breanne Moreau picked up an assist apiece against West Springfield.

Sarah LaClair made 11 saves for the win in net.

Granby 2, Holyoke Catholic 0 — Rachel Mick and Brooke Labrie scored second-half goals as the Rams (11-0-1, 5-0-1 Pioneer) shut out the Gaels in Chicopee.

Tara Mikalchus and Kiley Baran each had one assist, while Brittany Hauschild made five saves in the win.

Katie Klejna made 12 saves for Catholic (6-6-2, 0-4-2).

Hopkins Academy 1, Ware 1 — Kate Sullivan registered a goal for the Golden Hawks (4-5-2) in their draw on the road.

Sullivan scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie.

Amanda Olson made five saves in net for Hopkins.

Smith Academy 4, Pioneer Regional 0 — Cassidy Snyder had a goal and an assist as the Falcons (10-1) won in Northfield for their fifth straight victory.

Olivia Hanson scored a goal and made a pair of saves in net for Smith. Sara Pawloski and Netta Williams added a tally apiece. Hannah Rickert had two assists and Kory Wagner one.

Brooke Pashek (two saves) and Mackenzie Wilson (one) split time in goal.

Frontier Regional 1, South Hadley 1 — Camilla Baronas (19 saves) of the Red Hawks and the Tigers Abby Lukasik (13) starred in the draw in South Deerfield.

GiGi Thibault scored from Rachel Harrington for South Hadley (2-6-3, 1-3-1 Grieve).

Amanda Calvo countered for Frontier (0-6-3, 0-4-1 Grieve) on an assist by Casey Michalowski.

Boys soccer

Ludlow 2, Amherst Regional 1 — An offsides call negated a game-tying goal for the Hurricanes in the closing seconds as Amherst fell at home.

Goalie Curtis Barnes took a free kick from about 35 yards out. An Amherst player headed the ball to Erik Schleeweis who headed in the goal. The offsides call was made on the first header.

The three goals were scored in a five-minute span of the second half.

Jaimon Olmstead scored off a corner kick from Brandon Vazquez for Amherst (6-2-2, 1-2-1 Smith).

Barnes finished with four saves.

Ludlow (8-0-2, 3-0-1) remains unbeaten.

Granby 0, Pioneer Regional 0 — Goalkeeper Brett Sullivan made three saves and preserved a scoreless draw at home for the Rams (4-3-4).

Gateway Regional 2, Greenfield 0 — Josh Baillargeon scored both goals as the Gators (5-3-3) came away with a road victory.

Zach Mackechnie picked up an assist for Gateway, while Mike Arel notched the shutout with eight stops.

McCann Tech 4, Smith Vocational 1 — Nick Adair scored for the Vikings (0-9-1, 0-6 Tri-County North) in the loss at North Adams.

Field hockey

Northampton 1, Frontier Regional 1 — Taryn Marquis and Adrienne Pascucci traded second half goals as the Blue Devils (9-1-2) and Red Hawks (7-2-1) played to a tie at Frontier.

Marquis scored for the Red Hawks just two minutes after halftime on a penalty stroke.

Two minutes later, Pascucci responded with an unassisted tally.

Gwen Thayer stopped six shots for Frontier, and Mary Greco made three saves for the Blue Devils.

South Hadley 3, West Springfield 0 — Allie Rondeau scored twice with an assist to lead the Tigers (2-7-2) to the road win.

Merry Kocot had the other tally for South Hadley, which put in all three goals in the second half. Dominique Wilkins picked up a pair of assists.

Sam Brault made two saves for the shutout in goal.

Girls volleyball

Easthampton 3, Putnam 0 — The Eagles (10-2) reached the double-digit victory mark by earning a home sweep, 25-18, 25-17, 25-19.

Kelly Avard had three digs, two kills, two aces and two blocks for Easthampton. Rachena Nhem had 10 assists and two kills, while Kayla McFarland added four aces and three kills.

South Hadley 3, Dean Tech 0 — The Tigers (7-3) registered 32 aces, as they rolled to an easy 25-6, 25-15, 25-15 victory at home.

Maddie Kelleher (seven aces), Kelly Pouliot (six aces) and Rachel Dizek (five aces) led the Tigers.

Frontier Regional 3, Ware 0 — The Red Hawks (11-1) bounced back after their first loss of the season, as they won 25-12, 25-12, 25-10 on the road.

Courtney Newsome finished with five aces and three kills, Alexis Foley had four kills and two aces and Cassidy Ciesluk added four kills and three digs.
