Tuesday’s cross country: Amherst boys, girls sweep to stay perfect
Cross country runners from Amherst, South Hadley and Frontier begin a race Tuesday in Amherst.

The Amherst Regional boys and girls cross country teams remained perfect as they swept their tri-meets at home with victories over Frontier Regional and South Hadley.
The Hurricane boys (7-0, 4-0 Valley North) took the first seven overall spots to earn a pair of 15-50 victories.
Gabe Fishman was the overall winner, covering the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 13 seconds.
He was followed in scoring by teammates Connor Evans (18:18), Owen Wright (18:25), Allen Vance (18:47) and John Santolucito (18:56).
Jake Rybzcyk (eighth, 19:34) was the top finisher for Frontier (2-6), which downed South Hadley 25-30.
Travis Warren (10th, 19:14.21) was the first finisher for the Tigers (0-7, 0-5 Valley North).
On the girls side, Amherst didn’t take first overall — Frontier’s Natalie Mako (18:50) did that — but posted five runners in the top eight to defeat the Red Hawks 20-39 and South Hadley 19-40.
Mel Devoney (second, 19:07), Sarah Vannah (third, 20:04), Emmy Zimmerman (fourth, 20:12), Emma Gonzalez (seventh, 21:02), Anna Kaplan (eighth, 21:07) were the scorers for the Hurricanes (7-0, 4-0 Valley North).
Mako and Amy Graham (ninth, 21:32) led the Red Hawks (6-2) to a 26-30 victory over the Tigers (4-3, 3-3 Valley North).
Serena Sarage (fifth, 20:52), Grace Bailly (sixth, 20:55) and Hope Werenski (10th, 21:57) finished in the top 10 for South Hadley.
