Expo for region’s veterans continues Saturday in Cummington
CUMMINGTON — A two-day expo for veterans from throughout the region continues Saturday at the Cummington Fairgrounds.
Combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as spouses and families of veterans and veterans of all generations, are invited to the first-ever Small Town Veterans Expo.
The expo, part of National Military Appreciation Month, kicked off Friday with an opening ceremony and continues Saturday with a parade of military vehicles. The parade, called a “Welcome Home Convoy,” will leave Pelham on Route 9 at 10 a.m. and head west to the fairgrounds.
The expo is intended as an opportunity for veterans across rural areas of western Massachusetts to meet with service providers and receive information on the full range of assistance available them.
The expo will include representatives for health care providers, experts on housing and employment assistance, continuing educational opportunities and local veterans’ service officers and Department of Veterans’ Services representatives.
The Springfield Mobile Vet Center will also be on hand Saturday. The center is equipped with confidential counseling space and travels to communities across New England to extend the VA’s reach to veterans, service members and their families.
