Cummington events celebrate season

A host of events, including a candle lighting, a concert and community caroling, will take place in Cummington starting Thursday. The events, the majority of which will take place at the Village Church on Main Street, are open to the public.

∎ On Thursday, at the close of office hours, which run from 5 to 5:30 p.m., a Vespers Meditation will take place from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. in the church office, when participants will light the fourth candle of Advent, the candle of love. People are welcome to drop in; no experience necessary.

∎ On Friday, the well-known Celebration Singers will perform a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. at the church. It will be followed by a “Holiday Sing” led by the Singers. The evening will kick off with refreshments and conversation at 6:30.

∎ On Dec. 23, Christmas carolers, led by the 4-H Club, will sing holiday songs on Main Street. Participants are invited to gather at the Community House at 6 p.m. to sing and return there after for cookies and cocoa. People are welcome to provide cookies for carolers.

Main Street residents are asked to help carolers by turning on their outside lights.

∎ On Dec. 24, a candlelight service will take place at 7 p.m., offering readings, songs and a special message.

∎ On Dec. 30, the public is invited to a Messiah Sing starting at 4 p.m.

In addition, worship services will be held at the church on the first and third Sundays at 10 am.
