Hilltown Voices: Hilltown CDC receives $1 million Community Development Block Grant

The Hilltown Community Development Corp. based in Chesterfield, received a Community Development Block Grant last month totaling $1,097,235. “The Department of Health and Community Development awards these grants annually through a competition,” said Dave Christopolis, executive director of the Hilltown CDC. The agency applied for the grant on behalf of the towns of Chesterfield, Cummington, Goshen, Peru, Plainfield, Williamsburg, and Worthington. Christopolis said that a little more than half of the funds will be used for the corporation’s housing rehab program. “We contract to repair 22 homes from all of those towns, so basically each town gets three or four houses done,” Christopolis said. “That is roughly $25,000 to $30,000 per home,” he added.
