The Amherst Regional girls soccer team is closing in on its first tournament berth in 10 years.

Freshman Sage DeChiara scored her 13th goal of the season as the Hurricanes defeated rival Northampton 1-0 in Amherst Wednesday.

Amherst (6-3-3) needs three points in its final six games to reach the postseason for the first time since 2003.

Sophie Marciano took a throw-in and touched a pass DeChiara on the side of the 18-yard box. DeChiara beat a defender and sent a low shot to the far post and past Hamp goalie Rose Katz-Berger (12 saves).

Becca Carkhuff made 12 saves for her third straight solo shutout.

Hattie Wilder-Karlstrom, Rebecca Livingstone, Shira Yeskel-Mednick and Kelly Ford provided stout defense for the Hurricanes.

Northampton fell to 2-7-2.

Smith Academy 6, St. Mary 0 — Cassidy Snyder (assist) had three goals, while Moira Pitrat (assist), Hannah Rickert (assist) and Mia Ellis each had one as the Falcons (9-3-1) rolled in Westfield and clinched a tournament berth in the process.

Carley Pedruczny and Brooke Pashek each had one assist, while Pashek (two saves) and Snyder (one save) split time in goal.

Belchertown 1, Minnechaug 1 — Kayla Henry scored the tying goal midway through the second half and the Orioles (10-0-1, 4-0-1, Coombs) held on to tie Minnechaug on the road.

Henry’s goal was assisted by Brittany Moreau.

Sarah LaClair (four saves) and Ashley Cavanaugh (two) each played one half in net for Belchertown.

Hampshire Regional 3, Chicopee 1 — Sieana Caron scored twice to propel the Raiders (9-1-1) to their eighth win in a row.

Bri Weltlich also had a goal for Hampshire, with Liz Hotham, Anna Dziok and Chelsea Moussette picking up an assist apiece.

Madison Boucher and Kayla Labrecque each made two saves to backstop a defensive effort led by Hope MacDonald and Lauren Aldrich.

Mohawk Trail 1, Hopkins Academy 0 — The Golden Hawks (5-7-1) allowed the lone goal 11 minutes into the second half in the road loss.

Kate Sullivan made three saves for Hopkins.

Easthampton 6, Ware 0 — Maddie Grabowski (hat trick) and Courtney Urban (goal, two assists) posted three points apiece for the Eagles (8-1-2) in the home shutout.

Willow Ross and Karina Volpe added a goal each for Easthampton, while Brenna Mottor and Gabby Downer both assisted twice.

Alyssa Fugiel turned aside a pair of shots for the Eagles.

Gateway 3, Chicopee Comp 2 — The Gators (8-2-2) qualified for the Western Massachusetts Division 4 Tournament after hanging on to beat the Colts at home.

Kendall Rooney, Joanna Arkoette and Chelsi Derrig each scored for the Gators, and Jessica Van Heynigan added an assist.

Sarah Otterbeck had six saves for Gateway.

Boys Soccer

Belchertown 3, Central 0 — Nicholas Drost, Alex DeSantis and Jack Stinson each scored as the Orioles (9-2-0) continued their winning ways at home.

Jonathan Ingram had two assists, while Mark Chmura had one.

Lewis Berger made two saves for the Orioles.

Amherst 7, Holyoke 0 — The Hurricanes (8-2-2) qualified for the Division 1 tournament after beating the Purple Knights on the road.

Eric Gooden, Hadrian Rodriguez, Ian Robson (goal, assist), Jack McGowan, Adam Rice, Myles Olmsted (goal, assist) and Wilson Fidalgo all scored for Amherst.

Noah Iimura, Jordan van Emmerik, Andy Zyskowski and Jake Rudd also added assists.

Matt Santana (one save) and George Holt (three) each played one half for the Hurricanes.

Field hockey

Frontier 4, Mahar 1 — Rose Moscaritolo had two goals, while Jordyn Roberts and Brenna Sicard each had one for the Red Hawks (9-2-1) in South Deerfield.

Taryn Marquis had two assists, while McKayla Poissant had one.

Gwen Thayer made three saves in the win.

Minnechaug 4, Amherst 0 — Nadia Squitero had 27 saves but the Hurricanes (2-8-0, 0-5-0 South) fell on the road.

Girls volleyball

Pioneer Regional 3, Smith Vocational 0 — Bailee Richardson (three digs) and Deyaneira Padilla (four digs) each had three kills and three assists but the Vikings (0-11) fell 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.

Amherst 3, West Springfield 1 — The Hurricanes (10-2) won 25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 25-18 at home.

Ali Ziomek had 11 kills, 14 digs and three aces, and Cassie Long had 34 digs, four aces and two kills to lead the Hurricanes.

Justine Bohl had 25 assists and 11 digs, and Julia Fay added five blocks and three kills for Amherst.
