Tuesday’s high school softball: Megan Logan, Holyoke Catholic escape with win over Gateway Regional
Megan Logan wriggled out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the seventh inning as the Holyoke Catholic softball team defeated Gateway Regional at Holyoke Community College on Tuesday.
Logan allowed six hits and no walks, and had two of her nine strikeouts in the game-saving final frame for the Gaels (6-5).
Logan helped herself with a double and a run for Catholic. Anna DeSimone added two hits and a run and Shannon O’Driscoll had a double and an RBI.
Center fielder Lindsey Robins made a leaping catch to thwart a potential rally for Gateway (6-5) in the sixth.
Granby 5, Easthampton 0 — Tessa Cote struck out four and allowed two hits as the Rams (8-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win over the Eagles (6-3) at home.
Briannah Mercier went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Noelle Menard had two RBI singles in the win.
Kayla McFarland and Haley McFarland each had one hit for Easthampton.
Smith Vocational 18, Dean Tech 3 (5) — Nicole Houlihan (four RBIs, two runs) and Ashleigh Kowal (three RBIs, two runs) each slammed a home run as the Vikings (4-7, 4-6 Tri-County) steamrolled to the home win.
Rachel Small had a two-run triple and scored twice for Smith Voke. Caitlin Small (RBI) and Madeline Spencer-Orrell each had a hit and two runs, while Alice Kubacki tripled and scored once.
Spencer-Orrell fanned nine and allowed just two hits in a complete-game victory.
