Amherst

FLU CLINIC: The Amherst Health Department will hold a free flu vaccination clinic Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Health Department office at 70 Boltwood Walk. The vaccine is for anyone 8 or older regardless of insurance status or residency. The clinic is drop-in, with no appointment necessary.

Belchertown

ARTWORK NEEDED: The Belchertown Board of Selectmen is seeking artwork and/or photographs by town residents to be considered for the cover of the 2012 annual town report. Artwork or photographs relating to Belchertown must be vertical, preferably no smaller than 5 by 7 inches and suitable for reproduction. Include artist’s name, address and telephone number on the back. Once submitted, the artwork or photograph becomes the property of the town of Belchertown. Submissions should be forwarded to the Selectmen’s Office, The Finnerty House, One South Main St., P.O. Box 670, Belchertown, MA 01007, no later than noon on Feb. 1.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 school year at Cold Spring School in Belchertown will take place March 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March 21 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Parents or guardians of children who will turn 5 by Sept. 1, 2013, should attend one of the registration sessions, which will take place at the school at 57 South Main St. To register, the following paperwork is required: a certified birth certificate with raised seal; immunization records; a recent physical; and two proofs of Belchertown residency — a mortgage statement or lease agreement, and a utility bill (telephone, electric, heating) with address listed.

All children who will be 5 by Sept. 1 must register for kindergarten, even if they are now enrolled in the early childhood program at Cold Spring School.

Holyoke

FUNDRAISING GALA: The Fourth Annual Stepping Out for Autism Fundraising Gala will be held on Jan. 26 from 6 to 11 p.m. at The Log Cabin in Holyoke. There will be hors d’oeuvres and tapas stations, live music provided by Union Jack, a photo fun booth provided by Studio SMC Photography, a silent auction and a raffle. Tickets are $50 per person or $450 for a table of 10. South Hadley

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION: Jen Markow and Linda Vincent will guide participants through mindful meditation exercises on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gaylord Library. Discussion will include how mindfulness can be used at home and in the workplace to reduce blood pressure, reduce anxiety, help with depression and more. Space is limited. DOG TRAINING CLASSES: January is National Train Your Dog Month, and Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society is offering training classes that the nonprofit says will help dogs and their owners.

C.L.A.S.S. (Canine Life And Social Skills) classes, scent work for dogs, K-9 fitness, tricks and canine good citizen classes are among the sessions Dakin will offer beginning this month. Classes will also be offered at Dakin’s Springfield facility, 171 Union St., and at Dave’s Soda & Pet City, 335 Russell St. (Route 9), Hadley.
