Tessa V. Desjardins of Belchertown charged with vehicular homicide in pedestrian death
GRANBY — A 20-year-old Belchertown woman has been charged in the death of 61-year-old Faith Schauer-Swift on Oct. 21.
Tessa V. Desjardins of 1120 Federal St. was charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, according to Granby police.
Granby Police Sgt. Mark L. Smith would not go into detail about what activity constituted the negligent operation charge, except to say there is no evidence of Desjardins being distracted by cellphone use.
According to police, Schauer-Smith, of Maitland, Fla., was walking north on the shoulder of the southbound lane of School Street when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Desjardins, traveling south.
Desjardins was the only occupant of the vehicle, Smith said. Police said Schauer-Smith was in Granby visiting family in the area.
No arraignment date for Desjardins has been set yet, Smith said.
