Tuesday’s high schools: Hopkins boys soccer, Belchertown girls soccer improve to 5-0
A pair of local powerhouse soccer programs won on Tuesday to run their records to 5-0.
The Hopkins Academy boys defeated Holyoke by a 5-0 score, while the Belchertown girls went to West Springfield and emerged with a 2-0 victory.
Hopkins Academy 5, Holyoke 0 — The Golden Hawks (5-0) continued their perfect start with the independent road victory.
Paul Delamy scored two goals while Brennan Mitrolka (assist), Tyler Szymkowicz (assist), and Chad Sanderson each scored one.
Keeper Ben Pitta made two saves for the shutout.
Holyoke Catholic 2, Mohawk 0 — The Gaels (1-3-1) got their first win of the season on the road.
Ryan Lukomski scored the first goal assisted by Colin Messinger. John Hannoush converted a feed by defenseman John O’Hara.
Catholic keeper Tom Heavren made six saves to complete the shutout.
West Springfield 5, Belchertown 3 — Despite putting 11 shots on net, the Orioles (4-2, 2-1 Churchill) fell at home.
James Izatt, Nick Drost and Ryan Kearney each scored a goal for Belchertown. Cameron Messier picked up an assist.
Louis Berger and Connor Curtain combined for 14 saves in the loss.
Belchertown 2, West Springfield 0 — Breanne Moreau had a goal and an assist to help the Orioles (5-0, 3-0 Coombs) to the road win.
Bryanna Veroneau also a goal, while Kayla Henry earned an assist.
Sarah LaClair made seven saves for a shutout win.
Northampton 0, Chicopee Comp 0 — Despite putting 14 shots on net, the Blue Devils (1-1-1, 1-1-1 Kurty-Fielding) could not score in the draw at home.
Exceptional play was demonstrated by Hannah Finn-Erb and Charlotte Maurer. Blue Devils keeper Rose Katz-Berger made six saves.
Frontier Regional 10, Pioneer Regional 1 — Megan Farrick (assist) and Kara Felton led the offensive onslaught with two goals apiece in the home victory for the Red Hawks (2-2-1).
Elaine LaBarbera and Kathryn Byrnes each had a goal and an assist, while Megan Slocumbe, Ashely Barrington, Angela Self and Camilla Baronas notched a tally apiece. Emily Jansson and Meghan Devine each picked up one assist.
Baronas made two saves before moving out to play the field. Eliza Desmarais came in and stopped one shot.
Amherst Regional 2, Athol 1 — The Hurricanes (2-5) won their second game in a row on the road.
Isabelle Humbeck and Georgia Nichols had the goals for Amherst. Jules Brissette and Ali McIntire both contributed an assist each.
Goalie Nadia Squitiero made six saves in the victory.
Longmeadow 5, Frontier Regional 0 — The Red Hawks (4-1) lost for the first time in a battle of last season’s sectional champions.
Gwen Thayer stopped 22 in goal shots for Frontier.
