Two women hurt when car hits Look Park pole
NORTHAMPTON — Two women were treated and released from Cooley Dickinson Hospital after an accident at Look Park when a car went through a fence and struck a telephone pole about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Ruth M. Beebe, 89, of 44 Pine Grove Road, Amherst, told police that she was parking her car in the lot by the train station when she mistakenly accelerated instead of braking. The car went forward over a curb, through a fence and into a telephone pole. Police estimated the damage at more than $1,000.
Beebe and her passenger, Lillian Carver, 85, of 49 Old South St., Northampton, were taken to the hospital with what police described as minor injuries.
Southampton driver hurt in three-car crash
EASTHAMPTON — Joanne M. Grout, 38, of 44 Glendale Road, Southampton, was treated and released from Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton after complaining of back pain following a three-car accident on Campus Lane about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Grout was driving on Campus Lane when her car was hit in the side by a vehicle driven by Cindy L. Scott, 53, of 9 Searle Ave., which pulled out from a parking lot, according to police. The impact caused Grout’s car to spin and strike an unoccupied, parked car on the side of Campus Lane.
Scott, who told police she did not see Grout’s car, was issued a written warning for failure to use care in starting.
■ A man reported at 3:11 p.m. Thursday that his vehicle was struck by a hit-and-run driver at 41 Gray St.
■ A woman reported at 2:47 p.m. Thursday that $250 was stolen by a home cleaning service employee.
■ A vehicle traveling east on Amity Street was struck by another vehicle leaving the Bank of America parking lot at 2:22 p.m. Thursday.
■ A vehicle traveling north on Sunset Avenue was struck by another vehicle traveling west at the intersection with Fearing Street at 1:22 p.m. Thursday.
■ A vehicle was towed after it slid off the road near College Street Motors at 260 College St. and ended up in a ditch at 8:44 a.m. Thursday.
■ Rosanna G. Daniele, 41, of 124 Cottage St., Apt. B, was arrested at her home at 9:33 a.m. Thursday on a charge of disturbing the peace after her screaming bothered neighbors.
■ Matthew A. Farrar, 45, of Becket, was arrested at 5:44 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Chapel and Maple streets on charges of receiving stolen property over $250, possessing a stolen Registry of Motor Vehicles document, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He was arrested after police ran a search and discovered his license plate was reported stolen.
■ William McLaughlin, 54, of 66½ Maple St., Apt. M, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Public Safety Complex on a warrant.
■ Police are trying to identify a man who reportedly shoplifted a bottle of alcohol from the Union Package Store, 68 Union St., by concealing it in his pants at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday.
■ Police investigated a report at 11:51 a.m. Thursday that a laptop was stolen from an unlocked car parked at the Walter Salvo House, 81 Conz St.
