Rotary donation funds school room renovation

The grant will be given at the club’s annual awards banquet to be held at the Lord Jeffery Inn Thursday at 5 p.m.

This marks the fourth year the Rotary has given a larger gift to supplement the smaller donations it makes to many organizations.

In 2010, $25,000 was given to Crocker Farm’s PGO to renovate the school’s playground. In 2011, $25,000 helped the Amherst Survival Center purchase kitchen equipment for its new site. Last year, $25,000 went to the New England Public Radio to buy a digital audio storage and playback system for WFCR.

The event will also recognize club members with the Paul Harris Award, the highest award given by Rotary, and welcome incoming club president Dick Kraus, the former president of Cape Cod Community College.

The money for the grant comes from events that include the annual community fair, the Rotary auction and the COVAC bike ride.

Other recipients supported by Rotary include the Amherst A Better Chance program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County, the Hurricanes Booster Club, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Amherst and Riverside Industries.
