Friday’s colleges: Amherst College trio advance to individual tennis championships
The Amherst College tennis team is leaving its mark in the NCAA Division III individual championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Mark Kahan won twice Friday to advance to the men’s singles championship.
Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin won their only women’s doubles match to advance to the semifinals.
Kahan rallied to beat Kenyon’s Paul Burgin 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, then topped Aaron Skinner of Trinity (Texas) 6-4, 6-4 to reach the finals.
Kahan will play Adam Putterman of Washington-St. Louis in the championship Saturday at 9 a.m.
Brewer and Devlin defeated Sewanee’s Jenny Liles and Lindsey Liles 6-1, 6-0. The pair will meet Emory’s Gabrielle Clark and Annette Sullivan at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.

Smith College senior Kirsten Silfvenius broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.41 seconds in a preliminary heat at the NCAA Division III championships at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse.
Silfvenius missed qualifying by 0.10 seconds.
