Thursday’s colleges: Amherst native Kate Pistel scores 100th goal for Colby College women’s lacrosse
Two-time All-American Kate Pistel of Amherst scored her 100th career goal 27 seconds into the game to help the sixth-ranked Colby College women’s lacrosse team to a 16-2 victory over Colorado College on Thursday.
Pistel is the 13th player in program history to reach 100 career goals and is the second player this season. Pistel, who had two goals and one assist Thursday, has 101 goals and 37 assists for 138 career points from her midfield position.
UMass 8, Hartford 0 (5) — Caroline Raymond tossed a five-hit shutout with two strikeouts as the Minutewomen (14-17) won at Sortino Field for their seventh consecutive victory.
Tiffany Meeks hit a three-run home run to highlight a seven-run fourth inning.
Quianna Diaz-Patterson of Amherst had two hits, drove in a run and scored another for UMass. Teea Rogers (two RBIs) and Cyndil Matthew also picked up a pair of hits each.
UMass-Dartmouth 17, Smith 11 — Kate Detrick scored three goals but the Pioneers (3-12) lost the non-conference home game.
Jessica Lillquist, Rachel Silveria and Christina Vara had a pair of tallies apiece for Smith. Jenny Estes added one goal, while Simone Lawrence picked up her first collegiate goal.
Savannah Lawson made seven saves in defeat.
UMass 5, Dayton 0 — The Minutewomen defeated Dayton to advance to the second round of the Atlantic 10 tournament in Charlottesville, Va.
