Amherst police ask for public’s help to deter crime during spring break
AMHERST — The next 10 days will see many area college students depart for spring break, increasing the likelihood their off-campus homes will be targeted by burglars.
Amherst police are reminding residents who will be in town to pay attention to people in neighborhoods who may be suspicious or vehicles that seem out of place.
“We’re encouraging people to be vigilant about the potential for property losses and thefts,” said Detective David Foster.
While police will have additional patrols in areas that are populated by students, Foster said residents can assist by being aware when things seem amiss.
“If you see something suspicious, call the police,” Foster said.
