Weekend Planner: Kids
“We got started in my living room,” says Northampton pianist Christine Olson. “I was playing a set of pieces that were very colorful — they provoked my imagination and I started hearing a story. But I knew I needed an actual storyteller, so I found [Northampton musician and puppeteer] Tom Knight and we teamed up and put together our first show, called ‘The Sorcerer’s Cauldron.’ But we wanted the thing to grow, so we recruited [pianist] Meg Kelsey Wright and [percussionist] Russ Neiman and the group became known as The Four Story Players.”
Combining storytelling with classical music, the Four Story Players currently offers three shows: e_SDLqThe Sorcerer’s Cauldron,” story by Tom Knight and Christine Olson, with music by Albert Elmenreich and William Gillock; e_SDLqAnitra the Ladybug,” story by Tom Knight, music by Edvard Grieg (from his e_SDLqPeer Gynt Suitee_SDRq); and e_SDLqPeter and the Wolf,” featuring the music of Sergei Prokofiev arranged for piano four-hands and percussion, with full puppet show.
On Saturday the Four Story Players will be at the Jones Library to perform “Peter and the Wolf” and “The Sorcerer’s Cauldron” as part of the library’s annual Children’s Music Series.
