Wednesday’s colleges: UMass women’s basketball team falls to La Salle

The University of Massachusetts women’s basketball team led midway through the second half but couldn’t on, falling 68-57 to La Salle Wednesday afternoon at the Mullins Center.

The Minutewomen (3-18, 1-5 Atlantic 10) took a 43-35 lead on a Emily Mital 3-pointer. The Explorers (7-13, 3-2) responded with an 11-2 to take the lead for good with 7 minutes, 55 seconds remaining.

UMass was outscored 33-15 over the final 11:40.

Jasmine Watson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Jasmine Harris and Mital each had 11.

Carolann Cloutier added 10 points and five assists.

Brittany Wilson had 30 points for La Salle.

UMass will host Temple Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on CBS 3 Now and channels 230 (Charter) and 293 (Comcast).

Smith College 79, Springfield College 44 — Alyssa Barrett and Paulina Solis each scored 22 points as the Pioneers (18-2, 12-1 NEWMAC) cruised in Northampton.

Mount Holyoke 61, Clark 59 — Angelica Pascual had 22 points on six 3-pointers as the Lyons (5-13, 3-10) won in South Hadley.

Amber Legare (nine rebounds) and Kate Karraker each had 11 points in the win. Nicole DeMarchena of Amherst had six points for the Lyons.
