NAACP in Amherst revived
An Amherst branch of the NAACP, dormant for several years, is being reactivated.
The meeting to restore the local branch will take place at the Bangs Community Center’s Large Activity Room Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Vladimir Morales, a solicitor for the NAACP, said he and others have been working on the plans since March as a way of giving a voice to people in the community.
“I think more than ever it’s needed to have another avenue to talk,” Morales said.
The meeting will include nomination of officers and five at-large executive committee members, as well as information on membership.
Juan Cofield, president of the New England Area Conference of the NAACP, is expected to attend.
