weekend planner- Tour

As an art historian and chief curator of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Nick Clark can tell you about the connection between Eric Carle and Henri Matisse or about Maurice Sendak’s debt to Albrecht Dürer. Guided by the thesis that great children’s book illustrators are deeply steeped in the centuries-old traditions of art, Clark has been building a world-class permanent collection for the Eric Carle Museum for the past decade. On Sunday he’ll personally conduct a guided tour of that collection, offering insights into works by Leo Lionni, William Steig, Maurice Sendak and many others. Beginning at 1 p.m. at the museum at 125 West Bay Road in Amherst, the tour is free with museum admission. 658-1100, www.carlemuseum.org
