Break-ins reported during long weekend in Amherst

AMHERST — Electronics were stolen during four break-ins in Amherst reported over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Police Detective David Foster said Monday that the break-ins are under investigation. Foster said police annually issue reminders to the large student population in town to bring valuables home with them when they will be away.

The first incident was reported Saturday at 5:25 p.m. at a Smith Street home, where someone entered the residence through a basement door and took three laptops and an iPod, Foster said.

The next incident came Sunday. At 12:32 p.m., Meadow Street residents told police their home was entered through a rear door and a game system and a flat-screen television were taken.

This was followed at 1:54 p.m., when Justice Drive residents reported two television sets stolen, and at 9:30 p.m. on Chestnut Street, where a bedroom window was forced open and a laptop, iPod and speakers were taken.
