Traffic delays anticipated as road projects in Amherst continue
AMHERST — Several road construction projects are expected to cause traffic delays throughout Amherst next week.
Lincoln Avenue will be closed to through traffic daily beginning Monday as excavation and replacement of a sewer main by the Department of Public Works resumes.
Construction will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., at which time the road will be reopened.
Gallagher Asphalt continues its hot-in-place asphalt recycling Monday on North Pleasant Street north of the University of Massachusetts campus, before shifting to University Drive between Amity Street and Northampton Road for the rest of the week.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, heavy delays are expected on Main Street, where Warner Brothers will continue its rebuilding of the road and replacing the railroad crossing, before applying a top coat of asphalt from East Street to the railroad tracks.
Finally, Lane Construction will continue its work around town, with heavy delays expected on Wednesday on South Pleasant Street in downtown, where the company will mill the existing asphalt off, and on Friday when they will place a top coat of asphalt down.
On-street parking will not be allowed in the area of construction between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and at times there will only be one lane of traffic able to pass through the construction zone. Anyone with questions can send email to the DPW at email@example.com.
AMHERST — Curbside leaf pick up by the Department of Public Works begins Monday.
Residents should have their bagged leaves in town-approved, 30-gallon biodegradable bags placed by 7 a.m.
The DPW will start on Amity Street, Northampton Road, Belchertown Road and Amherst Woods, continue Tuesday and Wednesday in South Amherst and North Amherst, before ending in town center on Thursday.
Bags are available at the DPW office, 586 South Pleasant St., or at Amherst Farmers Supply.
Loose leaves will not be collected.
A second collection, weather permitting, will take place the week of Nov. 26.
