Amherst

∎ Marcus Julian Miller, 22, of Keefe Campus Center, Unit 285, Amherst College, was arrested Thursday at 1:39 a.m. on Main Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no registration sticker and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

∎ Joseph G. Doody, 23, of 32 Woodbridge St., South Hadley, was arrested Wednesday at 11:37 p.m. on West Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and failure to use care in stopping after the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a vehicle, police said.

Easthampton

∎ Police are investigating an attempted breaking and entering reported Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. The owner of Venom Custom Automotive at 2 Hill Ave. said a male fled the scene on a bicycle, but nothing was taken.

∎ Two accidents earlier this week took down utility poles in the area of Pleasant and Lovefield streets.

The first accident occurred Monday at 2:40 p.m. when Jeremie Gill, 20, of 66 Brown Ave., Holyoke, went off the road in the area of 98 Lovefield St. and struck a utility pole that had to be replaced. He was not injured, police said.

The accident knocked out power to 74 customers until 4:45 p.m., a WMECO spokesperson said.

Tuesday at 6:04 a.m. a vehicle driving northeast in the area of 15 Pleasant St. drifted off to the right side of the road, drove over the sidewalk and hit a Verizon pole head on, snapping it off.

The driver, Darlene Gill, 54, of 5 Gula Drive, who is not related to Jeremie Gill, was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital where she was treated and released.

Citations were not issued in either accident.

∎ The owner of Hairspace Salon at 76 Cottage St. reported Sunday at 10 p.m. that someone had broken into the store and her office but was unable to open the locked safe.

∎ Police investigated reports of tires being slashed on five vehicles Sunday and Monday. Two were cars at 77 Pomeroy St., and the rest were at 190 and 245 Hendrick St. and 12 Emily Lane.

∎ William J. White, 32, whose address is listed as the streets of Easthampton, was arrested Saturday at 6:42 p.m. on a charge of disorderly conduct after Nonotuck Park officials reported he was highly intoxicated and refused to listen.

∎ Mohammed J. Gholam, 31, of 10 Bayberry Drive, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation after police said he caused an accident on Mountain Road Saturday.

Witnesses told police that Gholam was driving down Mountain Road at 12:52 a.m. when he veered across into the opposite lane, struck a guardrail, swerved back into his lane and then drove up the embankment. His car came to rest on its side.

Police said he admitted to smoking marijuana laced with phencyclidine. He refused medical treatment, they said.

Northampton

∎ Police are investigating the reported theft of a pair of We-vibe brand personal massagers with a combined value of about $300 from Amazing.net on King Street.

∎ Aljava Y. Johnson, 38, of Holyoke, was arrested about 6:29 p.m. Wednesday on Main Street on a charge of having an open container of alcohol on city streets or sidewalks.

∎ Gavin Robert Cairl, 28, of 4 Montague Road, Sunderland, was arrested about 4:16 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant from Greenfield District Court on charges of operating with a suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, following a traffic stop.

Southampton

∎ Lisette A. Lopez, 25, of 9 Center St., was arrested at her home Oct. 16 just after midnight on charges of assault and battery after she allegedly struck her boyfriend in the face.
