Reminder: Real estate taxes are due Nov. 1, the day after Halloween.

Speaking of Halloween, if you don’t want Trick-or-Treaters coming to your home, don’t put on your porch or front door lights. Otherwise be prepared for some great costumes.

Some visitors may be asking for donations for UNICEF boxes. Please be generous if you can.

Garden report: I grew potatoes, 40 of them. Some are very small and more were medium size. When I finished cleaning the beds, I started digging in the dirt and there they were. I was quite pleased. However, covering the peppers with plastic didn’t work. The plants died.

Shirley Stevens of Amherst gave me a flier about the University Women bus trip to New York City Nov. 14. The bus leaves Amherst at 7 a.m. and gets back around 10 p.m. There are two stops in the city. You are on your own for the day. The cost is $37. Call Shirley at 253-7269 or email her at: stevens317@aol.com.

Steve Porter, the son of Rosalie and David Porter of Amherst was heard on Diane Rehms’ show on NPR last week. He spoke on Debussy, whose 150th birthdfay anniversary is this year. The program featured clips of Steve’s Debussy performances in Paris, Sarajevo, as well as the United States. He recently performed at Applewood in Amherst.

Ilka Rivard, the daughter of Judy and Bob Rivard, sent me an email about a benefit for multiple sclerosis that she is involved with. She is on the organizing committee and modeling for Fashion Plates that will be held Nov. 2 with lunch and fashion show at the Hotel Sheraton in Boston. She graduated from ARHS in 1990. You can check the details at nationalMSsociety.org/fashion plates. There are photos there as well.

Another reminder: My new email address is phyllehrer@gmail.com. Some missed it when it was published earlier. I will do the holiday guide calendar for the Gazette and Bulletin so I am looking for submissions of events between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.
