Pittsfield man complaining about taxes allegedly threatens to blow up city hall

Prosecutors say David Shufelt went to city hall Tuesday morning to pay back taxes.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that a “casual conversation” between Shufelt and a female employee turned into a “rant” by Shufelt, who complained that he can’t afford to pay for insulin because of all the taxes he pays.

Police allege he told the woman that if he had a bomb, or the means to make one, he would blow up the building and kill everyone inside.

Shufelt pleaded not guilty to a charge of making a false bomb threat.

Shufelt’s attorney said his client’s alleged statements, while possibly inappropriate, were not threatening.
