Cheshire woman admits to embezzling thousands from TD Bank branch in Pittsfield

Jennifer Thurston pleaded guilty Wednesday to embezzlement by a bank employee and larceny over $250.

Prosecutors say the 40-year-old Thurston was fired from the TD Bank branch in Pittsfield in 2009 after acknowledging taking $2,000 from her till. An audit by the bank revealed that she had stolen more than $110,000 before she was fired.

She and her lawyer said the amount was more like $70,000.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that her lawyer told the judge she did not use the money for “flashy cars” and luxuries, but rather for medical expenses during a difficult period for her family.

Thurston tearfully apologized.
