Student exchange program seeks local host families for teens

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM: The nonprofit ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is seeking local host families for high school students from a variety of countries who are participating in school exchange programs.

The students, who range in age from 15 to 18, are seeking to attend the coming high school year or semester. Each student is fully insured, brings their own spending money and expects to contribute to household responsibilities, according to Joyce McKenney, ASSE’s regional contact person.

This year’s exchange students come from China, Finland, France, Germany Norway, Spain and Thailand — among other countries, McKenney said. ASSE, formerly the American Scandinavian Student Exchange, has been designated as an official visitor program by the U.S. Department of State.

For information on how to host a student, call McKenney at (207) 737-4666 or 800-677-2773.
