Lottery deadline approaches for Paulo Freire Social Justice Charter School

The school is set to open in September under the guidance of the founders of Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School, Ljuba Marsh and Bob Brick.

The new school, at 161 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, aims to offer college preparation, small class sizes, a supportive community environment, as well as sports, arts, technology and community initiatives.

The location offers easy access on and off Interstate 91 and by public transportation.

Applications for the lottery to select the incoming ninth-grade class are available at the school’s website, paulofreirecharterschool.org, at the start-up office of the school at 206 Maple St., Room 406, in Holyoke, or by calling Brick at 413-575-0084.

Applications are open to all Massachusetts residents, though preference is given to students who live in Holyoke, Northampton, Chicopee, West Springfield, Westfield and South Hadley. Applications need to be delivered or postmarked no later than Jan. 18 for a lottery selection process to be held Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. at the school’s office.
