Final public forum set for Nov. 1 on $1.4 million override for Easthampton schools
School leaders are hosting a final public forum next week on a proposed $1.4 million property tax override measure that voters will decide Nov. 6.
The forum is scheduled for Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in the music room of White Brook Middle School on Park Street.
School Committee members, administrators and teachers will be on hand to present information about how the school plans to use the added tax revenues if voters approve the override next month. School leaders have said funds are needed to restore cuts made over the past few years and to support technology upgrades and world language programs beginning in the elementary grades.
Superintendent Nancy Follansbee said school leaders will also share information about what will happen if voters do not approve the override. She said preliminary estimates for the 2014 schools budget anticipate a $900,000 gap will require further cuts in staff and programs.
For information about the forum, call the school department’s main office, 529-1500.
