Dennis Bidwell: Urges vote for Paul Spector for council
To the editor:
I write to urge my friends and neighbors in Ward 2 to vote for Paul Spector for City Council on Nov. 5. Ward 2 and Northampton have been fortunate to have someone as skilled, hardworking, balanced and progressive as Paul Spector as our city councilor.
However, we can’t take it for granted that incumbent Spector will coast to a win — low turnout elections, like this one will be, sometimes produce unpleasant surprises. Therefore we must all remind our friends and neighbors about what’s at stake, and work to get as many people as possible to the polls to vote for Paul on Nov. 5.
And there is a lot at stake. With Paul, we would continue to be well served by his experience, his leadership of two critical council committees, his problem-solving skills and good judgment in the council and in neighborhood settings, his commitment and accessibility, and his even-tempered and positive approach.
I’m certain that we would not be so well-served if we were instead to elect someone who moved into the ward only two years ago, who has not been involved or become familiar with the workings of the city’s committees, commissions and budget processes and whose chief arguments seem to be “change for the sake of change” and “I’ll single-handedly improve the city’s financial situation because I have a private business background.”
We need a city councilor who is reasoned, constructive and positive. Please join me in voting for Paul Spector.
