Galvin will seek re-election to sixth term

Galvin, a Democrat, had been weighing a run for the state’s top law enforcement job since current Attorney General Martha Coakley announced that she would be a Democratic candidate for governor in 2014. In a statement on Tuesday, Galvin said the attorney general’s office was “enticing,” but that he had decided to continue the work he enjoys as secretary of state.

He was first elected to the post in 1994 and is the state’s longest-serving constitutional officer.

No other candidates have yet announced for attorney general but there is expected to be considerable interest in the high-profile state office.
