Challenger Ellen DuPont wins seat on Plainfield Board of Health

DuPont won the position by a 5 votes, receiving 46 votes to Goodnoff’s 41.

Two ballot questions – one for a Proposition 2 ½ debt-exclusion override to purchase a front-end loader and the other for a debt-exclusion to hire a fourth employee at the town’s highway department – passed. Both must win backing at annual Town Meeting. That session will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Plainfield Town Hall.

Incumbents returned

All of the other races saw incumbents re-elected, including the Select Board , town clerk, first and second constables, library trustee, moderator, tree warden and the Whiting Street Fund Disbursement Committee.

A seat on the Board of Assessors will remain vacant, however. According to Town Clerk Theresa Thatcher, the position has remained empty for a few years and the town has had problems finding anyone willing to take it.

“It’s a tough job. You’ve got to be able to not listen to what people are saying and just do the job,” said Thatcher. “That’s a tough job in a small town,” she said.

In all, 89 voters cast ballots Saturday.
