HADLEY — There is one School Committee seat open in Tuesday’s election, and one candidate is on the ballot, so it is likely that Heather Klesch will be the newest member of the School Committee when it next meets.
Klesch, 36, of Bargate Lane, moved to Hadley 15 years ago. She earned her doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2010, and now works for Pearson Education in Hadley, overseeing the development of teacher licensor assessments.
Klesch has one son, who has been in Hadley schools since pre-school and is now in the fourth grade at Hadley Elementary School. Her husband, Michael, is a music arranger for high school and college marching bands.
Klesch said that before deciding to run for School Committee, she spoke with some of the other committee members and was impressed by their dedication. “As my son’s gotten older, I’ve decided that I just really want to give back of my time,” Klesch said.
Over the last year, she has become an active member of the school community. She served as a member of the principal screening committee for Hopkins Academy, and is one of the lead organizers of Helping Hearts for Hadley, a new group that is dedicated to raising money for technology upgrades in the schools.
If she wins the election, Klesch will replace School Committee member Thomas Waskiewicz, who has served on the committee since 1987 and chose not to run for re-election.
