Anti-nuclear activist Helen Caldicott to speak in Northampton on Sunday
NORTHAMPTON — Anti-nuclear activist Dr. Helen Caldicott will speak Sunday at the First Churches of Northampton, delivering a talk titled: “Medical Consequences of Fukushima and Its Relevance to the U.S.”
The talk is sponsored by the Nuclear Free Future Coalition of Western Massachusetts, comprised of nine community organizations in the Pioneer Valley, including the American Friends Service Committee of Western Massachusetts. Caldicott will speak at 3 p.m. in the First Churches sanctuary at 29 Main St. Caldicott, a physician and scholar, will describe the health dangers following the meltdown of nuclear reactors of Fukushima, Japan, and on the dangers of nuclear power. She has devoted 38 years to an international campaign to educate the public about the medical hazards of the nuclear age. From 1978-1983 she was president of Physicians for Social Responsibility.
