Convicted child rapist Frank Stanley Jr. chooses to go forward with trial on child pornography charges
NORTHAMPTON — Rather than plead guilty to 18 counts of possession of child pornography as expected Thursday, Frank L. Stanley Jr. of Hadley elected to go to trial.
Stanley, 42, of 35 Chmura Road, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Hampshire Superior Court to 18 charges related to the sexual abuse of three boys.
He was sentenced to 20 to 30 years in state prison. After Wednesday’s proceeding he indicated he would plead guilty to the pornography charges Thursday, according to Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Linda Pisano.
The child pornography possession charges stem from the alleged discovery of child pornography on Stanley’s computer while police investigated the sex abuse allegations.
Pisano said none of the victims in the abuse case were involved in any material allegedly found on the computer.
During a very brief hearing Thursday morning, Stanley indicated to Judge Daniel A. Ford that he wanted to exercise his right to a trial. Ford set the case for trial in December.
Stanley, whom Pisano described as a full-time Air Force reservist and aspiring nude model, admitted to the abuses of three boys over a seven-year period in Granby and Hadley. He will serve his sentence at the Cedar Junction Correctional Institution in Walpole and was given credit for 657 days served while awaiting trial.
