Amherst police break up gathering Saturday at party ‘hot spot’

There was no violence reported as a result of the police action and no property damage, according to the detective bureau.

Police Chief Scott Livingstone said Friday the department had received reliable information that college students planned to hold a huge party over the weekend, possibly at Townehouse Apartments.

The apartment complex was the site of a number of incidents following the March 9 Blarney Blowout in town.

Police from the University of Massachusetts Amherst assisted in clearing Saturday’s gathering, Amherst police reported. Afterwards, officers from both departments went door to door at residences along Hobart Lane and North Pleasant Street to remind college students to follow the town’s noise, nuisance and keg bylaws.
