Massachusetts Probation Department acknowledges some ankle bracelets lost

A department spokeswoman would not confirm the dollar value or the quantity of equipment that’s been lost.

Spokeswoman Coria Holland said some losses can be attributed to offenders who cut their bracelets and flee. She would not confirm other causes of lost equipment.

She tells the Boston Herald new measures focus on stricter oversight and control of inventory, record keeping and recovery procedures. The ankle bracelets are used to help keep track of people charged with serious crimes who have been freed on bail or have been sentenced to house arrest.

The department was the center of a job-rigging scandal.
