Richard Meyer of Cummington denies sexually assaulting girl in Worthington

Richard B. Meyer, 51, of 54 Porter Hill Road, pleaded not guilty in Northampton District Court Oct. 29 to two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Those charges are being prosecuted as subsequent offenses due to a prior conviction for that offense in Florida, according to court records.

Meyer was released on $2,000 cash bail under the condition that he stay away from the alleged victim, unless he is plowing and must pass by her school or home while working. Meyer works for the Cummington Highway Department.

According to court records, Meyer was watching football with a friend and the alleged victim at their Worthington home on Oct. 28 when the friend observed him touch the girl inappropriately.

When the girl’s mother arrived home, she was confronted with the accusation and asked the child about it. The child allegedly told her mother that Meyer had touched her that night and another time, according to state police.

Meyer was arrested that evening and arraigned the following day, according to court files. Meyer is due back for a pretrial conference Dec. 17.
