Two Springfield men arrested in home invasion slaying
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Two Springfield men are held without bail after pleading not guilty in connection with a fatal home invasion.
Twenty-year-old Ashton Hennessey and 23-year-old Joseph Watkins were arraigned Wednesday on charges of murder, home invasion and assault with intent to murder.
They are charged in the killing of 29-year-old Nicholas Ruiz-Gomez. Ruiz-Gomez died Aug. 18, the day after he was shot during a home invasion that also left another man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say Watkins was arrested early Tuesday after a car chase in which he tried to assault seven officers with a stolen vehicle.
Hennessey was arrested Wednesday morning after being caught hiding under a stairwell in a city home.
